The beginning of 2020 started like any other new year; except that the world was not prepared for an unprecendented disruption to our lives. Covid-19 has wrecked lives in many ways ... killing many, and for those who have survived, it has destroyed livelihoods and inflicted serious economic challenges. Many are still reeling in economic pain! The financial markets collapsing in early 2020 was a clear manifestation and indication of how economically challenging Covid-19 could be on Wall Street as well as on Main Street. As an indicator, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) crashed from close to 30,000 to around 18,000 in a matter of a month. You could say .... Life's a Bitch! If we had continued to merely live our lives struggling economially to get through each day without giving any thought of the situation we were in back then, then indeed, Life continues to be a Bitch! For those of us who stopped for a moment to ponder if we could be empowered to do anything different going forward that could change our lives, some managed to see that Covid-19 like all calamaties do not last forever, and so the market crash would not last indefinitely; in other words, there was an opportunity to "pick up bargains" in the financial markets. Indeed, as you can see from the chart above, those who managed to pick up bargains saw their investments grow by more than 50% in less than a year, alleviating the economic pain suffered during the Covid-19 period ... I guess one could say ...
